I am interested in the memories and associations which one takes from one place to another to conjure a sense of place. Utilizing a Cite des Arts residency I located parallels between the garden and coastal territories of Monet and my own in Australia. Expanding upon my working philosophy using a hybrid blend of marks as captives of repetitive drawing practice I was seeking to reflect the rhythm of place. Manipulating a register of experiences carving plates in Monet’s garden at Giverny, combined with my woodcuts from Australian experiences, memories are reconfigured blending boundaries between landscapes crossing geographical boundaries past and present.
